This is the view from Dyke Road, between Courtenay and Comox BC, looking towards the mouth of the Courtenay River. The pilings are from an old jetty, now abandoned and mostly washed away. The mountains in the background are the Beaufort Range. The original painting was awarded to the Smith Family, who won the most first prizes at the 2007 Comox Valley Exhibition Association Fall Fair.

Vessels entering or leaving the river stay in safe waters by keeping the range markers in line. As the river twists the vessel turns when its moves from set of markers to another.
